A shredding machine comprises cutters 8 on a perforated rotor disc 9 coating with the notched edges 7b of fixed shear blades 7 mounted in a hopper 1. The blades 7 are secured to the radial arms 5 of a bearing spider for the disc 9 and are adjustable axially of the hopper. The cutters 8 are adjustable axially of the disc 9. The shredded material is discharged through an outlet 12 by means of a wiper blade 13 secured to the disc 9.
