Abstract
1,088,837. Microscopes. POLSKIE ZAKLADY OPTYCZNE. Nov.5, 1964 [Nov. 9, 1963], No.45201/64. Heading G2J. A phase contrast microscope comprises an objective 0b having two concentric phase rings Ph 1 , Ph 2 , the inner one of which is positive and the outer one negative, and a condenser diaphragm E having two concentric, transparent rings S 1 , S 2 , positioned so that they are conjugated with the phase rings Ph 1 , Ph 2 respectively, and a system of polarizers which permit the intensity of light passing through the rings S 1 , S 2 to be changed continuously. A circular polarizer P 1 covers the ring S 1 , and an annular polarizer P 2 covers the ring S 2 , the two planes of polarization being perpendicular to each other. A third polarizer P 3 is rotatable to provide a continuous change in light intensity. By this means light falling on either of the phase rings may be cut-off to provide either a positive or a negative phase contrast.
