Abstract

[Also in Division E2] In a vehicle seat, having an angularly adjustable back rest, which carries a toothed sector and is retained in set positions by the engagement of a sliding plate pawl therewith, the interlocking components are duplicated in staggered relationship, so as to provide twice the number of settings in the same range of adjustment. The teeth of sliding plate pawls (155, 156) are aligned, so that when one (156) meshes with the teeth (166) of sector (116) the apices of the teeth (163) of the other (155) about those of the teeth (165) of the other sector (105). The pawls are urged into engagement with the sectors by separate arms (159, 160) of a plate spring (161) and disengaged by the action of a lever (151). A return spring may be secured to a hinge pin (107) on the opposite side of the seat.
