Abstract
1,087,952. Diamond form tools. NARADI, PRAHA, NARODNI PODNIK. April 12, 1965, No. 15426/65. Heading B3D. A diamond form tool for form grinding hard material or for trueing grinding discs is made by using a mould 6 the inside surface of which is a negative of the required working surface of the tool; a film of liquid adhesive is deposited on this inside surface whereupon diamond powder is poured into the mould which is subsequently given a rotary movement; the excess diamond powder is poured out of the mould, a supporting body 1 for the tool is placed in the mould and the space between the supporting body and the diamond-coated inside surface of the mould is filled with bonding agent 3 which firmly binds the diamond grains in the layer forming the working surface of the tool and connects this layer with the supporting body. The mould 6 is preferably made from a forged blank of aluminium alloy with constituents Al + Cu + Mg with the addition of Fe, Ni and Ti. The blank is turned on its periphery and side face. A cavity (7) is turned in the side face of the blank and the inside wall of the cavity is given the desired profile by a form tool. A hole (8) is concentrically turned in the bottom of the cavity (7). The mould is degreased, treated with caustic soda solution for about 60 seconds and rinsed in water. The liquid adhesive may be a 5% water solution of gum arabic and is brushed or sprayed on to the inside wall of the mould cavity. The supporting body 1 is preferably of an alloy similar to that used for the mould. The periphery of the body is knurled or grooved. The body has a reduced diameter portion received in the hole (8) in the mould to ensure concentricity of the body and the mould. The body is degreased. After the excess diamond grains have been poured out of the mould and the adhesive with adhering diamond grains has air-hardened, the space between the supporting body and the mould is filled with metal powder, e.g. a mixture comprising <SP>2</SP>/ 3 by volume of filings of aluminium alloy having constituents Al+Cu+Mg and <SP>1</SP>/ 3 antimony particles. A binding agent is then sprayed on to permeate the metal powder mixture; the binding agent is preferably an alloy comprising 65% by weight of zinc alloy (Zn+Cu+Al), 31-33% Cd and 2-4% of silver solder. The mould 6 is mechanically removed, e.g. by turning or grinding. The tool is finished by forming a chucking hole, machining the sides and wet cleaning the periphery with pumice or a grinding body of silicon carbide to expose the tips of the diamond grains.
