Abstract

An article is degreased by the action of a stream of degreasing liquid above ambient temperature containing solid particles, the liquid being atomized with compressed air before impinging on the article. The solid particles may be rigid and abrasive, e.g. uncoated glass beads, ballotini, alumina or silica sand, so that the article is simultaneously degreased and surface-finished, or alternatively they may be flexible, e.g. of leather or of textile material, particularly felt, to give a rubbing action which assists the degreasing. The liquid is preferably an aqueous solution of an alkaline degreasing agent.
