Abstract
1,087,239. Masts and rigging. P. K. COLES and B. E. COLES. May 3, 1966 [Nov. 9, 1965], No. 47365/65. Heading B7V. A mast or spar assembly comprises three generally parallel continuous spars 10, 11, 12 interconnected by plates or brackets 13 spaced along the length of the spars, the spars being positioned at the corners of a triangle. A channel 14 may extend between and parallel to the length of two of the spars to receive the luff wire 15 of a sail 16. The assembly may be mounted on a rotatable base to allow the assembly to pivot about its longitudinal axis, fixed stays 23 being attached by a pivot connection to the mast. The mast may be provided with diamond stays and crosstrees. Means provided at the lower end of the mast for supporting the sail boom 43 comprise a sail tensioning tube 41, Fig. 5, extending between two adjacent plates 13 on which tube is positioned the goose neck 42 of the boom and locked in any desired position by means of a pin 44 engaging one of a series of holes 45 in the tube.
