A crimping &c. press comprises a ram 3 carrying crimping dies 6, 7 and reciprocated by a toggle link 23, a lever 26 for operating the link 23 being moved to carry its pivot 27 over the ram, partially straightening the toggle, before the lever is turned for completing the straightening and thus the ram-stroke. The lever is supported by rollers 28, 33, guided in slots 29, 34 in the side plates 1 of the press. An initial part of the left-hand slot 34 is parallel to, and of the same length as, the other slot, so that the lever is first moved horizontally. With the rollers 28 at the right-hand end of the slots 29, the lever is turned about them as the other end of the lever is guided by the arcuate extensions of the left-hand slots. Drive is from a fluid-pressure cylinder 30 pivoted between the side-plates 1. Feeding.-A feed-tongue 39, pressed clockwise by a spring 43, is carried by a lever 37 and may be adjusted by a screw 42. The lever 37 is biased clockwise about its pivot 38 by a spring 40 into engagement with one of the rollers 33 on the toggle-lever 26, so that the feed finger is operated by the toggle-lever. A screw-stop 41 co-operates with the feed-lever 37, and a spring-pressed workholder 22 keeps a strip of connectors in a channel 16 in the press-table. Shearing.-A shear blade 5 on the ram, cooperating with a pair of stationary blades 14 on the table, severs a bridge between adjacent connectors.
