Abstract

1,085,842. Load engaging devices on lift trucks. LANCERS MACHINERY Ltd. March 20, 1964 [March 22, 1963], No. 11439/63. Heading B8H. For coupling a load to a lifting device coupling members are mounted on the top of the load and on the lifting device, one of the coupling members consisting of a channel-section sleeve having inwardly directed flanges and the other coupling member having outwardly directed flanges whereby the aligned members may be slid into engagement with each other. In the embodiment shown, a pair of channelsection members 5 mounted on the top of a tank are adapted to be engaged by flanges 12 of members 13 secured to a beam 14 which is adjustably connected to the lifting carriage of a side-operating lift truck. The beam 14 is pivotally connected by a link 15a to one end of a cross-bar 10 extending between a pair of arms, Figs. 2, 3 (not shown), projecting from the lifting carriage. The other end of the beam 14 is connected by an hydraulic ram 18 to the other end of the cross-bar 10 whereby the beam 14 may be tilted about a transverse axis. The beam 14 is also adapted to be tilted about a longitudinal axis by a ram 20a. In a further embodiment, Fig. 4, a sleeve 22 carrying an I-section beam 23 is supported on a fork tine 21, the beam 23 being adapted to engage the channel-section member 5 on the load.
