Abstract

1,085,395. Universal joints. DEMAG.A.G. Sept. 2, 1964 [Sept. 3, 1963], No. 35999/64. Addition to 1,028,111. Heading F2U. In a constant velocity universal joint of the type having torque-transmitting balls in registering grooves in the joint parts, the balls are maintained in the bisector plane by a cage which is positioned by levers pivotally mounted in the joint parts and in the cage. As shown for a double joint having balls 3, 3<SP>1</SP> between an inner part 1 and an intermediate member 57 and between the intermediate member and an outer part 2, the balls are mounted in cages 23, 23<SP>1</SP> which are positioned by levers 25, 25<SP>1</SP>. In addition levers 25<SP>11</SP> are provided which are pivotally mounted in the inner, outer and intermediate parts. In a modification the levers 25, 25<SP>1</SP>, 25<SP>11</SP> are replaced by levers which are pivotally mounted in the inner, outer and intermediate members and in the cages. In another modification, Fig. 4, a single joint has balls 3 positioned by flanges 23 which are individually positioned by levers 25. Means for retaining the balls in the outer member on dismantling and various constructions of cages are described.
