Abstract

A paper making machine has a rotatable roll contained in the head box and adapted to produce organised cross currents for dispersing fibres in a flow stream passing through the head box, the rotatable roll being disposed transversely of the flow stream in the head box, with a plurality of vanes being rigidly fixed on the roll and arranged in rows parallel to the longitudinal axis of the roll, the rows being equidistant from each other with the vanes of a row being arranged to lie at an angle to the longitudinal axis of the roll opposed to the angle of the vanes of the next adjacent row and at least one row of vanes having smaller vanes arranged alternately with the other vanes of the row. One such roll may be placed at the inlet of the headbox, and an inclined row of the rolls placed in an explosion chamber of the headbox.
