Abstract

1,084,067. Fuel injection systems. DAIMLER-BENZ A. G. March 15, 1966 [March 17, 1965; March 25, 1965], No. 11288/66. Heading F1B. A device 1 between a fuel injection pump and injection nozzle controls pilot injection. At each injection pulse from the pump a piston 2 is driven down to cause pilot injection through outlet 5 until an annular groove 15 on the piston connects space 6 to a relief passage 16, terminating pilot injection. Main injection starts when shoulder 21 travels downwards beyond the shoulder 22. A throttle orifice 11 in the piston assists upward return of the piston when injection ends, the orifice being by-passed in the main injection phase by a space 14 co-operating with large diameter bores 13 in the piston. In a modification Fig. 5 (not shown) a lateral passage 25 controlled by the piston leads to the fuel nozzle and upward return of the piston is facilitated by fuel supply pressure supplied to space 6' through non-return valve 30. A non- return valve 29 is also provided in the pressure relief passage 17. In Fig.9 (not shown) pressure relief between the pilot and main injection phases is obtained by connecting space 133 through groove 119 in the piston to a passage 117 connected through non-return valve 125 to a fuel storage space 111.
