Abstract

Shelters for housing aerial machines. - The hangar is T-shaped in plan and slopes gradually from front to back, thus following in general outline the form of the aeroplane. The walls and roof consist of light timber-framed and crecsoted leaves or sections A bolted or clamped together, so that the hangar can be taken down and reerected elsewhere. The lintel is formed of two or more beams jointed by means of fish-plates and bolts and is supported by cantilever beams D running from front to back over opposite sides of the rear or central bay and bolted to the lintel by means of steel cleats. The beams D serve to stiffen and bind the whole building together. King posts G, carrying ropes F which can be tightened, prevent the lintel from sagging. The walls and roof may be covered with canvas or other light material and the front may be fitted with waterproof canvas curtains, or with collapsible doors.
