Abstract

1,083,775. Floor cleaning machines. R. G. DIXON & CO. Ltd. Feb. 14, 1966 [May 21, 1965], No. 21690/65. Heading A4F. [Also in Divisions E2 and F2] In a floor treating machine comprising one or more brushes each mounted to rotate about a vertical axis, the or each brush is releasably connected to an associated shaft by sets of interengageable elements. As shown in Fig. 1, a brush head 15 provided with a ring casting 14 having a plurality of circumferentially spaced, radially projecting pins 17 is connected to a drive shaft 2 by inserting, in a direction parallel with the axis of the shaft 2, the pins 17 of the casting 14 into associated radially extending slots (12) (Fig. 2, not shown) of a ring casting 11 attached to the shaft 2 and then relatively rotating the shaft 2 and the brush head 15 to urge each pin 17 to ride up a ramp 13 adjacent the associated slot 12 thereby to effect firm clamping of the casting 11 between the pins 17 and a flange 19 of the casting 14. The casting 11 is attached to the shaft 2 by a flexible disc 8 which is riveted to a sleeve 6, the sleeve 6 being keyed to the shaft 2 and prevented from axial movement relative to the shaft 2 by a collar 7. The shaft 2 which is mounter by bearings 3 in a cage 4 attached to a frame 5 of the machine is rotatably driven from a pulley 1.
