Abstract
1,083,192. Endless conveyers. R. K. A. THOMPSON. Aug. 9, 1966, No. 41181/64. Heading B8A. [Also in Division F2] Endless chain tensioning sprockets 31 are fast on a shaft 33 removably mounted in side bearings 1-2 which may be slid between pairs of rails 34 by a screw 40 to adjust the chain tension. The rails 34 are fast with a frame 46 having driving sprockets at its opposite end so that the chain loops pass around the frame 46. The shaft 33 is held at each end in a half-bearing 1 by a bearing cap 2 held thereagainst by a surrounding ring 21 having a wedge 26 passing therethrough to engage the cap 2. Screws 23 in the ring 21 engage positioning holes in the half bearing 1. The bearings 1-2 are connected by the arms of a U-shaped frame 4 connected to the screw 40. The surrounding rings may be split diametrically and the two parts joined by a joggle joint for ease of assembly, Fig. 6 (not shown). The two chain loops may have lateral conveyer platforms or carry cutting tools, or underwater bucket dredgers.
