A garment supporting buck comprises a space 47 enclosed by two outer porous sides 38, 43 side 38 being lined with an impervious backing plate 39 and side 43 being lined with an orifice plate 45, a suction connection 35 extending through plate 39 into space 47 so that portions of the garment may be held by suction against side 43. The pressing machine, Fig. 1 (not shown) comprises a dressing station (6), a pressing station (7), one or two buck carriages 8 running on rails 9 between the stations, a pair of press heads (10) at the pressing station and means for supplying air or steam through tube 13 to the buck during pressing. Buck 11 has air bags 14 at its side edges and a yoke bag 15 supplied with air at the pressing station. Suction line (28) is connected to one port of a three-way valve (27) whose other ports are connected to an inlet filter (29) and a suction tube 30, Fig. 2 (not shown). The valve is controlled by the operator and suction can be applied to tube 30 or to the atmosphere through filter 29 tube 30 being released. Tube 30 forms, with tube 32, an extensible conduit 21 which extends parallel to rails 9. The sides 38, 43 of the buck are covered with flannel 37, 42 and cloth 36, 41, a spring pad 44 being provided between side 43 and orifice plate 45 whose perforations 48 are preferably as shown in, Fig. 3.
