Abstract

1353138 Ironing presses; treating textiles R P GUDGEON 2 Sept 1971 [4 June 1970 3 Dec 1970] 27042/70 and 57479/70 Headings D1A and D1L [Also in Division F2] A roller 2 of a rotary pressing apparatus for webs of material or garments comprises a hollow shaft 6 and a surface of a flexible porous or impermeable material secured at its ends to two spaced apart discs 7, 8 the apparatus including means to supply pressurised fluid medium through the hollow shaft 6, to the interior of the roller to expand the surface into a cylindrical shape. As shown the roller 2 further comprises a tubular perforated shaft 6 rotatable in bearings 24, 25, a rigid perforated cylinder 10 and a flexible sleeve 20. In Fig. 1 each permeable roller 2 cooperates with a rigid cylinder 1 and is supplied with compressed air or steam and the cylinder 1 may be perforated and connected to a vacuum source to draw steam through the articles being pressed. In Fig. 3 the rollers 1 cooperate with a moving belt 31 and the apparatus includes channels 35 for steam, hot or cold air or suction services. Steam ducts 36 which may be replaced by heaters are provided above the belt 31. The table 34 over which the belt 31 passes may be flat or convex in transverse section to spread articles being pressed.
