Abstract
1,083,035. Mechanical storage systems; platform elevators. A. G. WILD & CO. Ltd. Sept. 25, 1964 [June 28, 1963], No. 25876/63. Headings B8E and B8H. Storage apparatus comprises a stack of trays 17 supported on rollers 18 within a superstructure 10, the trays being selectively pulled out of and pushed into the superstructure by a mobile frame comprising a base-plate 21, two uprights 19, 20 fixed to opposite sides of the base-plate and a beam 22 carried by the uprights and projecting from opposite sides thereof, the beam being vertically adjustable by two rotatable screws 23, 24 which engage in tapped apertures in the ends of the beam and the beam having an aperture for engaging lugs 33 on the trays. The apparatus further comprises a second stack of trays disposed in a superstructure 11 similar to and facing the superstructure 10. The screws 23, 24 are interconnected by a chain 27 extending over sprockets 28, 29 and are rotated by an electric motor 26, and the frame is movable on rails (not shown) between the superstructures 10, 11 by a driven underfloor chain or wire rope system, the latter being connected to the frame by an anchor plate extending through a slot in the floor. A spring-loaded cable drum 30 on the frame carries the supply cable for the motor 26. To prevent tipping of the frame the base-plate 21 extends beyond the beam 22 and a switch may be fitted to the base-plate to stop movement of the frame should tipping occur. In operation the beam 22 engages under the front edge of a tray to be moved. The movements of the frame may be effected manually instead of by electric motors. A plurality of superstructures may be provided and the frame may be freely movable to serve any one of the superstructures, e.g. the frame could be an attachment on a fork-lift truck.
