A garage consists of an upper vehicle - parking storey at or above ground level and an associated movable platform mounted between a pair of parallel guides, the space between the guides providing direct access to a lower storeywhich is not necessarily used for parking vehicles. In Fig. 4, the platform is a trolley 38 movable by winch and cable up guide rails 37 and on to rails 36 in the above ground compartment of a two storey garage. The lower storey is directly accessible via a fixed ramp 22. The trolley 38 and the ceiling 57 of the lower storey may have apertures 43, 60 respectively to allow for access to the underside of a vehicle 23 in the upper storey. In Fig. 5 there are three storeys and therefore two movable platforms. Each such platform comprises a set of slats 25 bridging the guides 62 or 65 and connected together in a chain whose links run in the guides and are driven by sprockets 34. This type of platform may also be applied to a two-storey garage (Fig. 2, not shown). In Fig. 1 (not shown), the movable platform of a two-storey garage comprises a roller-shutter which retracts below the fixed floor of the upper storey and which, when extended into position between the sloping guides provides a ramp up which a vehicle can be driven under its own power.
