Vehicles, handling.-Parking systems of the type in which a number of parking stalls are provided on separate floors, and in which one or more lifts having guiding means for a transfer car is or are provided for transporting the automobiles, have a power-operated device in each lift cage adapted to move the automobile into the lift and out into its parking position, the transfer car being controlled from the lift cage. Each lift has a transfer car placed on tracks in the lift cage which can be aligned with similar tracks 25 in the receiving, parking and discharge spaces. The automobiles are supported on cross-bars 27 on the transfer cars which are raised and lowered by electrically operated jacks 28, these cross-bars registering with spaces between support bars 30 protruding from the sides of the pits, so that as the jacks are lowered, the automobile comes to rest on the support bars and the transfer car is free to return to the lift from beneath it. The transfer cars, Fig. 17, may be provided with electromagnets 64 which can be raised or lowered by jacks 65 so that when the car is beneath the automobile the electromagnet may be used to fix it to the car while it is hauled into and out of the lift. Each transfer car is operated by its own motor 60. Alternatively a dragging board 70, Fig. 19, may be mounted on the transfer car to contact with a part of automobile. The controls for the movements of the transfer cars may be disposed on panels within the lift. The transfer cars 55 move either in sunken guideways 56, Fig. 14, on the floors, or are guided by sunken rails 57, Fig. 21.
