Abstract

A multi-storey car-park comprises on each storey two rows of parking cells B, Fig. 1, separated by a central corridor C, Fig. 2 (not shown), the latter sloping down from the shaft A of an in-lift M to the shaft D of an out-lift F so that wheeled pallets on which the cars are carried will run down the corridor C under the control of a preceding brake trolley between the lifts M, F and the cells B, means being provided on the trolley for moving pallets to be parked into the cells B the floors of which are tiltable so that the pallets will run theredown into the cells and which when the cars are to be retrieved are tiltable in the opposite direction so that the pallets will run from the cells into the corridor C. The structure of the car park is portable and dismountable and has one or more entrances E and an exit G at ground level; the ground floor slopes towards the lift M. In operation a car is driven on to a pallet 1, Fig. 4 (not shown), held in an entrance E by a pivoted arrester arm 2 which when disengaged allows the pallet to run out of the entrance into the ground-floor corridor and so into the lift M. The pallet 1 consists of a frame mounted on castors 6, Figs. 7, 8, 9 (not shown), and having lateral guide wheels 7. The floor of the lift M is tiltable to facilitate movement of the pallet into and out of the lift, Fig. 4 (not shown). The pallet runs from the lift in a direction transverse to the selected corridor C which is provided with lateral shock absorbers 12 carrying longitudinal guides 11. The brake trolley comprises a frame mounted on non-castoring wheels and carrying a winch 15 provided with a brake system, and a wire extends from the winch to an anchorage on the car-park structure near the lift M, the structure carrying electrical conductors which co-operate with contacts on the frame. A single brake trolley may be provided which is moved to the different floors in a lift S; the wire is anchored at the top of the lift M. The tiltable floor of each cell B has a lateral slope equal to that of the corridor C and has guides for the wheels 6 and 7 of the pallets 1. The floor is hinged at 25, Fig. 4 (not shown), and is moved by a motor-driven screwed'rod 29 which engages a threaded sleeve 28 on the floor. When the floor is horizontal entry to and exit from the cell is barred by a spring-loaded guide 11, Fig. 6 (not shown), which is mechanically moved to a depressed position 11a when the floor is tilted. The means on the brake trolley for moving the cars into the cells comprises a continuous belt 39, Fig. 5 (not shown). Transverse guides 42, Figs. 10, 11 (not shown), are provided in the corridor C at each cell B for correctly positioning a pallet 1 when the latter leaves the cell, the guides 42 having gaps therein for passage of the supporting wheels of the brake trolley and the pallet.
