[Also in Division E1] A parking device comprises three platforms O, M, U, Fig. 1, which are mounted for vertical movement relative to a main frame 1 with the platform O vertically movable relative to the platform M, U so that any one platform may be moved to and from a loading level intermediate the height of the device. Extending from the frame 1 are four columns 3 ... 6 in which are housed threaded spindles 19 ... 22, the latter being engaged by nuts 30, Fig. 2 (not shown), rotatably secured to the platforms and drivably connected to a motor 38, Fig. 3 (not shown); the pitch of the thread is such as to give a selfbraking effect. The device is controlled from a switch box 40, Fig. 4 (not shown), the operation of a garage door or barrier being effected by hand or in association with safety relays. A plurality of the devices P are incorporated in a multi-storey garage, Figs. 11 to 13 (not shown), the access to the storeys being by twin up and down helical ramps 63, 64, the centre axes of which are spaced; the ramps are of different hand and adjacent parts thereof which are at the same level at each storey provide entrances and exits 73, 74. In the centre of the ramps there may be passenger lifts or staircases. Additional parking devices S, H are provided in which platforms are respectively lowered and raised to the levels of the floors of the garage. In a modification, Fig. 14 (not shown), the garage has two adjacent but laterally spaced helical ramps. In other modifications, the platforms may be moved hydraulically, e.g. from a central hydraulic plant comprising an accumulator or by hand and they may carry more than one vehicle. The vehicles may be moved laterally on to the platforms with the aid of additional devices.
