Abstract

1,082,295. Moulding candles. H. FROMTER and W. GITTKE, [trading as GOTTWALD & CO.]. Aug. 22, 1984, No. 34438/64. Heading B5A. A method of making a candle comprises the following steps (i) a stiff wick 4, Fig. 4, is introduced into a wick-holder 6 by means of a vertically reciprocable tube 3 and is nipped in position by means of a slide 10, see also Fig. 3 (not reproduced), (ii) a plunger 1 is raised to the position shown in Fig. 4 and the space defined by the open-ended cavity of a mould 13, a plate 7 and the bottom face of plunger 1 is filled wth paraffin wax or the like, (iii) the solidified wax is ejected by plunger 1 after retraction of plate 7, Fig. 1, and the wick, now contained within a hollow passage formed during moulding by tube 3, is cut by a knife 5 to complete manufacture of the candle, (iv) a further wickholder 6 is brought from a magazine 11 to beneath plunger 1 by plate 7 and steps (i)-(iii) are repeated.
