Abstract
1,081,617. Disc brakes. DUNLOP RUBBER CO. Ltd. June 5, 1964 [June 19, 1963], No. 24307/63. Heading F2E. In a disc brake of the floating calliper type, the calliper housing 14 is stabilized in the off position of the brake by an arm 37 rigidly secured at one end to an axle support (13, Fig. 4, not shown), and pivoted at the other end to a member 24 adjustably connected with the housing whereby the off position of the housing can be adjusted either manually or automatically. The member 24 is bifurcated to receive an actuating lever 28 of a manual applying linkage, and includes a pin 24 received in a bore in a screw-threaded adjusting bolt 23 which co-operates with a complementary thread within a hollow lug 22 integral with an end cap 20 of the housing 14. The cap 20 is bored to receive an hydraulic piston 21 which acts via a slidable thrust plate 18 on one pad 16 to apply it to one face of the disc 10, whereby the reaction pivots the housing relative to arms 12, carried by the support 13, to apply the other pad 16. The manual linkage comprises a lever 30 operated by a cable to pivot about a pin 29 on the lever 28 and to rock the latter by the rolling of a roller 32 on a sloping surface 33 of the housing.
