Abstract
1,081,070. Snap-action switches; retractive switches. PENN CONTROLS Inc. Jan. 18, 1966, No. 2348/66. Heading H2B. A cantilever blade (21) carrying a moving contact at its free end has a slot (43) in its central portion and is buckled by a transverse clamp (40) adjustable by a screw (45) so as to provide stable upwardly or downwardly buckled positions and is snapped from one to the other by the application of torsional force to part of the blade near its fixed end. In the embodiment of Fig. 1 (not shown) an arm (50) is secured perpendicularly to the blade (21) such that a lateral thrust on the arm will actuate the switch, while in the embodiment of Fig. 2 (not shown), an arm (50a) is similarly secured to the blade but is cranked such that an axial thrust on the end of the arm will result in torsional force on the blade. By providing various lengths and shapes of arm the angle of application of the operating thrust and its force/movement relationship may be suited to requirements without introducing any additional friction to increase the work necessary to operate the switch.
