Abstract

1,080,263. Carding engines. G. ROBERTS. March 31, 1966 [Jan. 16, 1965], No. 2044/65. Heading DIN. In a textile carding machine having a transfer roller 12 to remove material from a swift 10 for delivery to a second swift 11, a condenser or switch feed, a mixing roller 14 is provided in the angle between the swift 10 and transfer roller 12 to remove some material from the roller 12, particularly uncarded material lying high on the teeth of the roller, and return this material to the swift for further processing. Roller 12 rotates at between 20% and 50% greater surface speed than the swift with its teeth penetrating into the teeth of the swift. Garnett type wire is preferably used on the swift and Mirell type on roller 14. Roller 14 is adjustable towards and away from roller 12 and has a speed 15%-100% of that of roller 12. A burr beater roller 15 co-operates with roller 14 to knock vegetable and foreign matter into a tray 17. As shown material is removed from roller 12 by a doffer 13 and fed to a further swift 11. In Fig. 2 (not shown) the material is to be passed to a scotch feed or condenser and is removed from doffer (13) by a stripper (20) and a bright roller (21), the stripper and bright roller rotating with up to 30% faster surface speed than the doffer. A clearer and burnishing roller 18 with its teeth projecting into the mixing roller rotates at a speed up to 10% greater than the missing roller to remove fibre from the mixing roller and place them on the swift and to polish the teeth. A similar roller 19 is provided for the doffer 13.
