Abstract
1,079,820. Gas-blast circuit-breakers. ETABLISSEMENTS MERLIN & GERIN S.A. March 8, 1965 [March 20, 1964], No. 9799/65. Heading H2B. A gas-blast circuit-breaker has a compressed gas reservoir 11 forming, or directly connected to, an arc extinguishing chamber or chambers and supplied from a source of compressed gas through a supply conduit 12, a check valve 14 being provided in the conduit 12. The contacts are opened by supplying compressed gas to a control conduit 20, 19 so as to operate a valve 27, 29. When this valve operates, a control pipe 26 to the contact operating mechanism ceases to be vented at 31 and is connected through a pipe 21 to the reservoir 11. Should the pressure in the conduit 12 fail, the valve 14 closes to prevent loss of pressure from the reservoir 11 and pressure is no longer applied to a piston 16 through a pipe 17. The valve element 18 connected to the piston 16 changes over so as to shut off the control conduit 20 and to connect the conduit 19 to the reservoir 11 through the pipe 21. This opens the circuitbreaker contacts if they were closed at the time the supply pressure failed or prevents the closing of the contacts if they were open at that time.
