Abstract
107,939. Luard, E. S., and Rawlings, V. P. March 1, 1917. Fluid-pressure.-Relates to means for connecting the piston-rod of a vacuum-brake cylinder to the usual brake lever, in which a cross-head mounted to swivel on the piston-rod is formed with trunnions for engaging the brake lever. According to this invention, the cross-head is formed with a T-shaped slot 3, Figs. 1 and 3, at rightangles to the trunnions 2, and the piston-rod 8 is formed with a narrow neck 5, below which is a head 6. Flats 7 are formed on the upper part of the neck 5, and curved recesses 4 are formed in the upper part of the T-slot 3. The cross-head is attached by first sliding the slot 3 laterally over the flats 7, after which the cross-head is lowered on to the head 6. A spring 11 may be fitted between the head 6 and the bottom of the slot 3. In a modification, the T-slot is parallel to the trunnions 2. In the form shown in Fig. 8, the cross-head is formed with a cylindrical boss 14 having an internal shoulder 14<a>, and is attached by first sliding it upwards on the piston-rod sufficiently to allow a divided ring 15 to be placed on the neck 5, after which the cross-head is lowered. A pin 17 may be provided to prevent upward movement of the cross-head. This upward movement of the cross-head may be prevented in either of the forms described, by a divided ring 19 placed between the cross-head and the usual gunmetal sleeve 8<a> and retained by a sliding ring 20
