Abstract

1,078,953. Toothbrushes. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. March 16, 1965 [April 2, 1964], No. 10988/65. Heading A4K. [Also in Division H2] An electric toothbrush casing 1, which houses a pawl and ratchet switch 11 and a brush holder 7 projecting through an opening in the casing, has a resilient boot 46 in sealing engagement with the casing 1 and the brush holder 7. A clamping ring 44 secures the boot 46 to the casing 1 and an inwardly directed tubular extension 52 of the boot 46 is sealed to the brush holder 7. The switch 11 is actuated by a push button 33 received in an opening in the clamping ring 44. Depression of the push button 33 deforms the end portion 47 of the boot 46 and moves a resilient arm 38 which reciprocates a pawl 31 engaging with an eight tooth ratchet wheel (26, Fig. 3, not shown) mounted coaxially with a four lobe cam 25 which moves the contact blade 13 of the switch.
