Abstract
1,078,664. Heating granular material. INSTYTUT BADAN JADROWYCH. Aug. 13, 1964 [Aug. 14, 1963], No. 33126/64. Headings F4B and F4U. In a method and apparatus for indirectly heating granular material, the material drops freely through thin flat vertical chambers 1 from a container 7 through control devices 8, the chambers having at least one dimension of its cross-section from a few to about forty millimetres. The chambers are surrounded by heating flues 2, the heat being supplied by gas burners 3 and the gas entering through a duet 4 and combustion air through peepholes 5. Electric or water heaters may alternatively be used. Heat is transmitted to the material through the chamber walls and the waste gases are removed through channels 6. The heated material is collected in chamber 9 and removed by a conveyer 10. Any gases emitted or evolved from the material when heated are led off through a stub pipe 11 which can be connected with a vacuum pump (not shown). In order to increase the surface area of the flues, they may be vertically corrugated or grooved.
