Abstract

1,199,474. Continuous furnaces for heating loose materials. GB PATENT AB. 29 Aug., 1967 [1 Sept., 1966], No. 39398/67. Heading F4B. A continuous furnace for burning clay, clay slate, lime, gypsum or cement comprises a a vertical preheater 2 fed from a hopper 1, a vibratory stepped grate with upwardly inclined step 4 disposed below the bottom wall 13 of a combustion chamber 11 fired by fluid or powdered fuel burners 10, and a cooling air conduit 6 supplying ducts disposed within or below the grate said air being removed by a conduit 5. The grate rests on a carriage 7 having one or more vibrators 8 which impart both vertical and horizontal vibrations of variable amplitude. Waste gases pass through the preheater 2 and a duct 19 into the hopper 1, which is also supplied with hot gases from a cooler 15 having a grate 16 and air supply duct 17. The rate of passage of material over the grate may be varied by varying the inclination or the width of the steps 4 in particular zones.
