Abstract

1,076,240. Driving trailers; beam axle suspensions. S. R. EVANS. June 7, 1966 [June 11, 1965], No. 25367/66. Headings B7D and B7H. A trailer comprises at least one pair of wheels 11, a differential 13 between the wheels 11 with a gear 15 on the differential pinion shaft 16 and a motor 21 having a pinion 17 mounted on the motor shaft 18 which is threaded so that the pinion moves into engagement with gear 15 when the motor is energized and disengages when the motor is stopped. As shown axle 12 is mounted on springs 14 and the cross member 20, supporting the ends of the pinion and motor shafts 16 and 18, is pivoted to chassis 10. The motor 21 is a hydraulic motor connected by a hydraulic pipe 19 to a control valve in a tractor or other towing vehicle.
