Abstract

A corrosion inhibiting composition for lubricants comprises an alkali metal nitrite and the product produced by neutralizing an N-carboxymethyl-alkenyl-succinamic acid with an alkali metal phosphate. Lubricants specified are greases having the compositions (a) trimethylol propane tricaprylate thickened with calcium acetate/caprylate and sodium hydroxy stearate with dioctyl diphenylamine and 2,6-ditert.-butyl-p-cresol as antioxidants, (b) mineral oil thickened with an amine-exchanged bentonite and containing pentaerythritol, (c) mineral oil thickened with a lithium soap.
