Abstract

1,075,825. Rotary laboratory flasks; ball mills. F. GENSER. July 9, 1964 [July 9, 1963], No. 28353/64. Headings B1B, B1M and B2A. A flask 1 suitable for de-gassing and/or evaporating liquids, or for disintegrating solids, is rotated about its axis of symmetry S by an electric motor 9, the flask/motor unit being pivoted on a horizontal shaft 16 which fits within a bore in a plate attached to housing 12, whereby the flask/motor unit is freely movable through a vertical arc. Shaft 16 is clamped to the plate and is also connected, by another clamp, to an upstanding post. The flask/motor unit can be clamped in any desired position; and the bulb of the flask may, if desired, float freely on a water-bath. The motor rotates the flask via worm 8 which engages rim 7 of the ring 6 supporting the adapter 3, the end face of which is in sliding engagement with a packing ring 24 which separates adapter 3 from non-rotary adapter 23. Ring 24 is made of polytetrafluoroethylene and glass dust. A condenser may be connected to adapter 23 via bellows 26. Liquid to be treated is introduced into the flask via a perforated tube extending through the adapters and supported by cone 27. By placing glass beads in the flask, it may be used as a mill for disintegrating solid substances.
