Abstract

1,135,556. Electron microscopes. CENTRE NATIONAL DE LA RECHERCHE SCIENTIFIQUE. 7 March, 1966 [5 March, 1965], No. 9927/66. Heading H1D. A device for the rotation and the translational and/or pivotal movement in two perpendicular directions of an element within a sealed vessel, e.g. a crystal within electron diffraction apparatus, comprises a control rod 19, 20 having a bent section 21 and supported in a bearing 15 which is mounted within an annular support 12; a bellows 6 between the annular support and a baseplate 3 secured to the vessel wall 2; a bellows 8 between the annular support 12 and a plug 13 at the end of the bent section of the control rod; and a carriage 62 resting on rollers 64, 65 and supporting the annular support 12 by rollers 69, 71. The carriage 62 is translatable in two perpendicular directions by screws 57, 58 (76, 77), is translatable in the axial direction by translation of a plate 29 supporting the plate 54 on which the carriage 62 rests, and is capable of being pivoted by movement of pivots 36 (37, 38) between plates 29 and 54. A rotatable plate 87 operates on the bent section of the control rod. The bearing 15 comprises a tubular element supporting ballbearings 17, 18 at its ends while the support 12 comprises two annular plates 9, 10 clamped together and a ring 72 secured to the periphery of the plate 10. The rollers 69, 71 of the carriage 62 engage the ring 72. The ring 72, carriage 62 and plates 29 and 54 are readily removable whereupon the annular support 12 rests on the baseplate 3 by means of rods 99.
