Abstract

1,075,796. Injection moulding. DYNAMIT NOBEL A.G. July 13, 1964 [July 11, 1963], No. 28883/64. Heading B5A. In a method of applying a surfacing layer of synthetic plastics material to, a visible and/or working surface of a shaped article 1 held in a mould 3,4, the plastics material is injected through a bore or bores 7 in the article into a gap 2 between the article and mould in the region of the visible or working surface. The article is held in position in the mould by means of an apertured member 6 and may be spaced from the part 3 of the mould as well as from the part 4. The member 6 may also be provided with lateral openings (not shown) to supply plastics material to the gap between the article and the mould part 3. After the gap 2 has been filled the bore 7 may be filled by gradually withdrawing the member 6. A layer (13) (Fig. 3a, not shown) of foil, elastic fabric or the like may be interposed between the plastics material and the mould, being bonded to the plastics material by an adhesive. A spring- biased retaining member (15) grips the layer (13) around the edges of the mould cavity. The article may be formed with grooves or recesses of dove-tailed or like section to. improve bonding with the plastics, material. In a further modification (Figs. 4a, 4b, not shown) the foil (13) is arranged directly on the article (1), being held in place by pins (18) and is forced outwardly against the mould surface. by the injected material.
