Abstract
1,075,630. Container closures. FIAT S.p.A. Feb. 2, 1966 [Feb. 13, 1965], No. 4607/66. Heading B8T. [Also in Division F2] A cap 1 for a motor car &c. fuel tank has a central aperture 5 containing a freely movable valve member 3 which normally is retained by gravity in the position shown on a support diaphragm 8, so that the inside of the tank communicates through a hole 10 in the diaphragm, radial slots 7 in the valve member and the aperture 5 with the atmosphere, to allow ingress of air as fuel is withdrawn from the tank. On a sudden increase of pressure in the tank, as when the car &c. crashes, the valve member 3 is moved vertically upwards, so that the aperture 5 is closed and the fuel retained in the tank. As shown, the cap 1 has internal threads 1a by which it is screwed on to the filler pipe of the fuel tank, but alternatively a bayonet type connection may be provided.
