Abstract
1,075,503. Air cushion vehicles. GENERAL DYNAMICS CORPORATION. Aug. 11, 1965 [Aug. 24, 1964], No. 34285/65. Heading B7K. An air cushion vehicle 10 is formed with a duct 22 for pressure air leading to a flexible inflatable skirt 100 which terminates in a curtain-forming nozzle and extends outside the area of the structure 23. The inner and outer walls are connected by diaphragms 106 and the lower edge of the inner walls is secured to the structure by diaphragm 141 which forms one wall of a pressurized compartment 110. In another embodiment the diaphragm 141 extends to a point above the lower edge of the inner member, which is connected to the structure by ties. In further embodiments (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown) the compartment 110 encloses a number of separate inflated circumferentially-arranged tubes. Still further, the inner wall is formed of a plurality of discrete contiguous inflated tubes (Figs. 5 and 6, not shown).
