Abstract

1,074,613. Tunnelling machines. K. STURM. March 29, 1965 [April 15, 1964], No. 13145/ 65. Heading E1F. A tunnelling machine comprises a hydraulically advancable leading tube having a cutting edge and supporting a shield which carries an excavating device in a rotatable point with high pressure water jets and airtightly encloses a region adjacent the working face. Behind the leading tube are two further tubes one behind the other, advancable by hydraulic jacks and forming an annular region to accept liquid concrete for forming a tunnel lining, the concrete being cured by steam heaters. Excavated material ahead of the shield is fluidized by the addition of water and pumped out through a pulverizer into a collecting hopper at the end of the rear-most tube.
