Abstract

A machine for making underground excavations by compacting soil comprises shaft 2 having eccentric journals on which are mounted for free rotation in a sequence, beginning from the front end, a conical member 1 and behind it, tapered rolls 4 defining in combination a conically expanding body, shaft 2 being rotated by drive means. The conical member 1 has a through longitudinal passage, and the eccentric shaft 2 also has a through longitudinal passage of a cross- sectional area enlarging in the direction away from the face of the excavation being made. The cross- sectional area of the passage of the conical member 1 is smaller than the smallest cross-sectional area of the passage of the eccentric shaft 2. <IMAGE>
