Abstract

A method of providing a stressed concrete structure comprises providing wire or cable in a duct in a concrete structure, tensioning the wire or cable to stress the structure and completely filling the duct with a material consisting of or containing a corrosion inhibitor after positioning the wire or cable in the duct. A material consisting of or containing a vapour-phase inhibitor may be in the duct. The ends of the duct may be closed, e.g. with mastic or polyurethane foam. preferably before filling the duct, the material being introduced by a tube through at least one closure. The inhibitor is preferably cyclophenylamine carbonate, and it is preferably mixed with a petroleum jelly based compound which may include a thisatropic additive. The wire or cable may have been previously coated with a finely-divided mixture of wax or resin and corrosion-protector, e.g. tannin, by electrostatic spraying.
