Abstract

A corrosion-resistant coating material for use in protecting against corrosion an elongated steel element in the form of a steel wire, steel strand or steel rope comprises a finely divided mixture of tannin with a wax, the tannin being dispersed in a fine state of division throughout the wax matrix, and the wax having a sufficiently narrow temperature range of solidification, as when cooled from above its melting temperature to effect its solidification, to maintain the tannin dispersed throughout it. The matrix may be a stearmide wax. The tannin may be present to the extent of 2 to 10%.ALSO:A corrosion-resistant coating material for use in protecting against corrosion an elongated steel element in the form of a steel wire, steel strand or steel rope comprises a finely divided mixture of tannin with a wax or resin, the tannin being dispersed in a fine state of division throughout the wax or resin matrix, and the wax or resin having a sufficiently narrow temperature range of solidification, as when cooled from above its melting temperature to effect its solidification, to maintain the tannin dispersed throughout it. The matrix may be a polythene-type material. The tannin may be present to the extent of 2 to 10%.
