Abstract
1,073,797. Tubes insulated with refractory material. YAWATA IRON & STEEL CO. Ltd. Dec. 17, 1963 [Dec. 22, 1962], No. 49763/63. Heading F2P. An iron tube 1, e.g. in a molten steel suction pipe of a vacuum-degassing apparatus, is protected against high temperatures by refractory walls inside and out and has its outer wall formed of outwardly convex bricks (3), Fig. 3, not shown, which are retained together in position by metal rings 4 which fit in grooves 5, 5<SP>1</SP> in the bricks. A plate 14 around the base of the tube 1 supports the lowest course of bricks 3<SP>1</SP> which are of a different shape to the other bricks (3), Fig. 4, not shown. Successive courses of bricks 3 are built on top of the bricks 31 each with a ring 4 in their mating slots 5, 5<SP>1</SP>. The spaces 10 around the rings 4, and between an inner lining of bricks 2 and the outer bricks 3, are filled with amorphous refractory material. The tube 1 has an upper flange (12), Fig. 2, not shown, for connection to a degassing tank.
