Abstract
1,073,296. Fuelling reactors. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. Feb. 25, 1965 [April 30, 1964], No. 18093/64. Heading G6C. A nuclear reactor servicing system includes a fuel handling machine 4 having a water inlet for cooling the machine contents, and an outlet through which steam, generated during the cooling, is passed to a condenser 20; a water tank 15a is connected to the condenser and forms part of the reactor thermal and/or radiation shielding, this water being used in the condenser to condense the steam; a water cooler 15b is mounted outside the reactor shielding and is connected to the water tank to provide cooling of the water. Controlled cooling of a fuel assembly withdrawn into the fuel handling machine may be effected. The handling machine is of the double turntable type adapted to service any one of the standpipes 3 projecting above colandria tank 1. Provision is made for bringing the handling machine to the steam conditions prevailing in the standpipe before coupling and unsealing.
