Abstract

1,072,805. Hydraulic turbines and pumpturbines. MOSCOWSKY ENERGETICHESKY INSTITUTE. Aug. 27, 1964, No. 35105/64. Headings F1C and FIT. A radial-axial mixed flow hydraulic turbine or reversible pump-turbine comprises a gate apparatus 10 including upper and lower fixed covers 12 and 11 respectively and vanes 21, each vane being rotatable about a longitudinal axis thereof, and a runner 1 including an axially fixed hub 2 to which blades 4 are secured, the outlet cross-section of the runner being adjustable by means of an additional runner hub 5 which is axially movable and has slots 6 through which the blades 4 pass, the gate apparatus being provided with an axially movable additional cover 13 which has an outer surface 15 formed as a cylindrical shield. Movement of the supplementary hub 5 is effected by a servomotor 7. A further servomotor 14 comprising a fixed piston 16 and a movable cylinder 17 acts through rods 20 to axially displace the cover 13. The arrangement may be such that the periphery of the hub 5 is always in the same horizontal plane as the cover 13. In the embodiment shown, alternate vanes 21 are axially movable. The neighbouring axially fixed blades pass through rotatable bushes 22 mounted in the movable cover 13 whereas the axially movable blades pass through rotatable bushes 22 mounted in the lower fixed cover 11. Servomotors 23 are provided for turning the axially fixed vanes through their journals 24. Axially sliding keys 26 are provided on the journals 25 of the axially movable vanes (and are coupled by links 27 to the journals 24) to turn these vanes. The vanes may be turned so as to overlap and prevent water entering the turbine. In another embodiment, Fig. 1 (not shown), all the vanes are axially fixed and each passes through a rotatable bush mounted in movable cover (13). The cylindrical shield (15) is deeper than that shown in Fig.2 so that when the cover (13) is moved to its lowest position, this shield prevents water entering the turbine.
