Abstract
A basic oxygen steel making furnace comprises a generally pear-shape tank, means for directing an oxygen blast into the tank, and a refractory lining formed at least in part of a fused refractory consisting of, in weight per cent, alumina more than 5 but less than 13; impurities 0 to 3; and the balance magnesia. The lining can be placed on top of an insulating layer.
