Abstract

The tuyeres in a converter bottom consist of tubes of metal or metal alloy having a lower oxygen affinity than iron and a high heat conductivity. The tubes may be of copper fixed to a bottom plate with the spaces between the tubes filled with refractory material. The tuyeres may be used in either acid or basic converters.
