Abstract
An aqueous camphor solution is prepared by agitating pulverised camphor and water, allowing the mixture to stand, adding sodium chloride, magnesium chloride and calcium chloride in a respective ratio by weight one to another of about 18:6:1, and filtering off the undissolved camphor. The camphor is used in a large excess of the quantity soluble-e.g. 40 gms./litre, and the salts may be present in the concentrations: Na Cl, 20 gms./l.; MgCl2. 6H2O, 15 gms./l.; and Ca Cl2 (anhydrous), 1.1 gm./l., while the final solution contains a saturating proportion of camphor, i.e. 1.15 gms./l. The solution may be applied topically or administered orally, and is said to have antipruritic and antiseptic properties.
