Abstract

A glassware forming apparatus includes a pair of interchangeable substantially planar base-plates 28 (281), a pair of cylindrical casings 12, 14 supported on the upper surface of either base-plate with the longitudinal axes of the casings substantially perpendicular to the plane of the base-plates, piston means 64, 641 reciprocably disposed within each casing, means 84, 841 connected to each casing for introducing fluid to a separate one of said piston means, and means 30, 32, 301, 321 for mounting the casings on each of the base-plates with their longitudinal axes spaced at a different distance from each other when mounted on one of the base-plates than when mounted on the other base-plate. The base-plates 28 (281) have a pair of recesses 46, 48 in their upper surfaces into which fit bosses on the casings 14, 12, the depth and the diameter of the bosses 52, 50 being greater than and less than those of the recesses. This allows the casings to be self-adjusting with respect to each other when co-operating with moulds (e.g. blank moulds). Each casing contains <PICT:1072179/C1/1> <PICT:1072179/C1/2> a piston 64, 641 the bases of which have grooves 80 mating with corresponding grooves 80 in the upper surfaces of bosses 52, 50 each connected with a separate source of fluid under pressure. A hollow tube 74, 741 passes upwardly through the centre of each piston and each casing to the upper end of which is affixed a plunger, the other end of the tubes being connected to a source of cooling water. The casings 14, 12 are held on to the base-plates by flanged brackets 30, 301. The base-plates have a depending centrally fixed threaded rod 36 which co-operates with means enabling it to be raised and lowered. A further stabling device may include an upper arm 90 having holes 92, 94 therein corresponding to the recesses 46, 48. The apparatus may be used in parison forming in a press and blow apparatus.
