In an injection-blow moulding apparatus the blowing core or mandrel is sequentially located in a parison mould, moved axially to a blow mould with the parison, and withdrawn axially from the moulded article into a conditioning chamber where it is treated with a cooling or parting fluid, the moulded article being maintained under fluid pressure while in the blow mould after retraction of the core. In the parison mould 11 the mandrel 13 initially rests on the bottom of the mould cavity the top of which is defined by neck mould parts 52, 53. The plastics material is injected by a nozzle 20 and when the length of the parison has been formed the injection pressure causes upward movement of the mandrel and of a piston 42 which engages a pin 48 to actuate a switch 49 which de-energizes a solenoid 39 to actuate a cut-off valve 31 in the supply to the nozzle 20. The parison mould 11 is opened and the neck mould, mandrel and parison are elevated to a position within the blow mould 80, 81 which closes. Fluid under pressure is supplied to the mandrel to effect blowing after which the mandrel is withdrawn upwardly from the moulded article into a conditioning chamber comprising telescoped members 60, 70 and the surface of the mandrel receives a conditioning fluid such as cooling air or a parting agent, or a lining for the article. Air under pressure continues to be supplied to the article in the mould via port 87. The neck mould is then opened and the blow mould moved transversely out of the path of the mandrel as it returns to the parison mould where injection begins while the moulded article is removed from the blow mould by an inflatable finger.
