Abstract
1,069,630. Controlling aircraft. BODENSEE WERK PERKIN-ELMER & CO. G.m.b.H. June 4, 1964 [June 11, 1963], No. 23215/64. Heading B7G. [Also in Division G1] An aircraft control stick (3) is fixed at one end within a stationary sleeve (1) of ferromagnetic material and is magnetized longitudinally to form a magnetic circuit including four symmetrically disposed air gaps (6) between the stick and the sleeve. A Hall crystal (7) is located in each air gap, opposite crystals being connected in opposition to produce control signals representative of the deflection of the stick. As described, the sleeve has a substantially square internal section in the region of the air gaps and the stick has four polepieces (5) and is of reduced section at its lower end (4) to reduce its bending stiffness. The control current for the crystals is either A.C. or D.C. and the outputs which are proportional to the magnetic fluxes through the crystals are summed algebraically in transformers (13, 14, Fig. 4, not shown).
